Chiltern Railways operates mainline UK services between London Marylebone and Aylesbury & Birmingham Snow Hill.  The company was formed in 1996 during the privatisation of British Rail and was originally operated by the British Rail managers of the line at the time.

In 2003, ownership passed fully to Laing Rail who had held a minority stake at the time of privatisation.  The company was then sold to the German company Deutsche Bahn AG.

In 2010, Chiltern Railways got the go-ahead from the government for the final phase of their “Evergreen” project which, when completed will see the fastest journey time from London’s Marylebone station to Birmingham Moor Street slashed from almost 2 hours to just over 1.5 hours.
